A volunteer-powered 501(c)(3) uniting Pocatello since 2014

Who we are

A coalition of neighbours — united against hate

2 GREAT 4 HATE is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in Pocatello, Idaho in 2014. We bring together people of every background who share one conviction: every person has dignity, value and the right to fair treatment.

Our story

Born from a simple conviction

2 GREAT 4 HATE began in 2014 when neighbours across Pocatello decided that hatred, prejudice and intolerance had no place in our city — and that staying silent was not an option.

The name is a playful spelling of “Too Great for Hate”: our community has values, people and potential greater than any message of hate.

From the start, our work has been built on education, dialogue and voluntary participation. We change attitudes through conversation — not by reacting only after harm has been done.

A diverse group gathered around a table in conversation — the heart of our mission

Our mission

To build understanding, unity and respect across our community — by celebrating diversity, promoting equity, opposing hate and prejudice, educating the public and strengthening collaboration between people of every background.

We welcome everyone: all races, cultures, faiths, politics and circumstances. Unity doesn't mean agreement — it means disagreeing with respect and solving problems together.

Our vision

A future that is safe, equal and compassionate for every child — where children of all races, backgrounds and personalities are protected, respected and given room to grow.

That future is built by all of us: parents, teachers, law enforcement, legislators, faith communities, businesses, volunteers and residents — adults choosing to create a world without violence, hate and discrimination.

What guides us

Six core values

These are the commitments behind every conversation, partnership and action.

Human dignity

Every person has worth and deserves respect — regardless of race, religion, income, profession, politics or social standing.

Compassion

Empathy, kindness and genuine care for others' experiences — the foundation for resolving difference and building trust.

Fairness

A community where everyone is treated fairly and can take part fully — free of barriers built on prejudice.

Respect for difference

We treat difference as a source of knowledge and strength — never as a reason for division.

Collaboration

Community problems are never solved by one person or one organisation. Change needs residents, schools, government and faith groups together.

Community responsibility

Each of us shares responsibility for a safe, respectful community — through our words, actions and willingness to speak up when someone is hurt.

How we're organised

Led by volunteers, governed by neighbours

We are a small, volunteer-driven organisation. Our governance is structural, transparent and open — here's how decisions actually get made.

Volunteer board

Governance is held by a volunteer board of community members who serve without pay. Officers are elected from the board each year.

Active committees

Work happens in open committees — dialogue, education, outreach and partnerships. Anyone who wants to help is welcome to join one.

Annual meeting

Once a year the whole community is invited to review our work, ask questions and vote on the year ahead. Minutes are published on our impact page.
